From the Director

Greetings again in the name of our Lord,

Praise be to God for the victory that we have as true believers.  While here on Earth, the battle rages from day to day with little to no rest.  Occasionally, I let down my guard to try to rest, but the Devil is right there to deliver a blow when he sees an opening.  I took a pretty good wound just the other day.  I was noticing how the Lord had blessed in several ways here at the camp, and I started to feel pretty good.  Then it happened.  The camp computer crashed and hours and hours of work were lost due to a hard drive that went bad.  I know that you should regularly backup your important files, but I had failed to do so for the past few months.  (By the way here’s some advice, if you have a computer, do NOT fail to regularly backup your important files.)  In the end, the Lord intervened and sent me the help I needed.  We were able to recover most all of the needed information from the bad hard drive, and the only real loss was about three days of effort trying to fix the problem.  Thank the Lord!

As Christians we need to remember that we are in a battle of good versus evil, spiritual versus fleshly, and heavenly versus earthly.  Since we are

not “perfect” soldiers of Christ, we will take hits and suffer some wounds.  But God is able to deliver us.  We certainly know how this war will end and therefore rejoice.  You might be one who has not suffered any wounds.  If not, you should consider whether or not you are actually in the fight.  II Timothy 2:4 explains that a soldier in war would not entangle himself with the affairs and business of this life, because he wants to please the one who chose him to be a soldier.  So, let’s fight the good fight in a way that is pleasing to God who has made us His soldiers.

Love in Christ,

Daniel Osborne

Journal E-mail Option

Are you web savvy? Do you check your e-mail everyday? Do you want to help the camp save money?

If the answer is yes, then consider trying our “Journal E-mail Option”.  It’s really simple. (1) Send us an e-mail to info@campjacob.com and request the Journal E-mail Option.  Be sure to let us know the name and address at which you normally receive the printed version.  (2) Receive an e-mail notice that the Jacob’s Journal has been posted online.  (3) Read the journal to catch up on all of the latest events.

The online version of Jacob’s Journal is generally posted sooner than it can arrive in the mail.  And if you miss an edition, the online archives are at your fingertips.

Let us know if you want to give it a try!

What are Your Supporting?

Have you given much consideration as to what you are actually supporting through your regular activities?  Let me tell of something that is going on here in this great land of ours.  Several American companies are supporting the most ungodly things in this world.  You’ve surely heard about Walmart’s pledge to fund homosexual organizations.  I suppose you have also heard of Ford’s sponsorship of TV episodes that promote disgusting, graphic, homosexual acts.  But even more alarming than that is the deal that millions, including Christians, are taking.

Let me tell you about this deal.  For only $29.99 a month, you can get 120 channels, most of which at some point in the day promote adultery, lust, greed, murder, violence, homosexuality, atheism, blasphemy, and much more filthiness.  For ONLY $29.99 a month, you can watch and support all this junk.

Now on the other hand, for $25 a month, you can watch the Kingdom of God grow.  For $25 a month, you can see souls saved.  You can see commitments of purity made.  You can see commitments of service to God made.  You can see preachers, missionaries, youth ministers, and church workers announce their calling.  You can see trainings, workshops, and seminars for Sunday School, youth ministries, community outreach, conducting of church business, God-centered financial stewardship, and marriage counseling.  You can see opportunities for pastors and ministers to be refreshed and encouraged. You can see events held that share the Gospel to sinners and motivate Christians to a stronger faith.  For $25 a month you can support this.

Currently, Camp Jacob has a support building effort underway called “Be 1 of A Thousand”.  This is an effort to get 1,000 individuals or families to commit to giving $25 per month for the remaining months of 2007 or $300 for the year.  This is less than $1 per day.  This is less than what most people pay for TV.  We already have several that give at this level or more, but we need you, your family, and friends to help us reach this goal of 1,000.  I hope that you will join us in this effort.  I also hope that you will encourage your acquaintances to join in as well.

Useful Items & Skills

Maybe you have an item, a piece of equipment, or a skill that you would be willing to share with Camp Jacob.  Please let us know.  We can add you to our  contact list making special notation of what you are willing to share.  Then when the need arises, we will be able to get in touch with you.  Please do NOT assume that I should already know of something that you are willing to share. My brain is quite prone to  memory failure, and I would not want that to hinder you from being able to help Camp Jacob further God’s kingdom.

Applications for Summer Camp Counselors

If you or someone you know is interested in applying to work as a summer camp counselor, you may obtain application materials and information by coming by the camp office, requesting by phone, or visiting our website at www.campjacob.com and clicking on the “Forms & Applications” link.  We are looking for young men and women who have a Godly character, who are fun, enthusiastic, and energetic, and who desire to make a difference in the lives of children and youth.  Finding the right summer camp counselors is so critical to the success of our camp programs, that we sincerely desire your prayers for wisdom and discernment as we go through the hiring process.

Sponsored Projects and Cabin Adoptions

Thanks to those who have significantly lightened our load by sponsoring work projects or adopting a cabin.  Projects sponsorships and cabin adoptions thus far for 2007 include:

· replacement of electrical wiring in the lodge by Lick Fork FWB Church,

· cleanup and building of storage areas in the maintenance barn by Yates Chapel,

· preparation of the Jacob’s Journals for mailing by Ferbie Chapel Youth Group,

· adoption of the Preacher’s cabin by Fremont FWB Church,

· adoption of the Cook’s cabin by Hill Ridge FWB Church,

· adoption of Cabin 29 by Ferbie Chapel Youth Group.

Many opportunities for sponsoring work projects and adopting cabins still remain.  If this sounds like something you would to undertake, please give us a call.  A partial list of projects needed was given in the November 2006 Jacob’s Journal.
